What would it save you?

Enter a postcode and a panel size. We geocode the postcode, model a year of generation at that spot with PVGIS, and value the share you actually use at home against your own unit rate. Every assumption is shown with the answer.

What you will get

Your postcode is turned into coordinates, those coordinates are run through PVGIS — the European Commission’s solar yield model — and the resulting annual generation is valued at your own unit rate.

Standing assumptions
  • Panels flat-mounted facing south, 14% system losses (the PVGIS default).
  • Only the electricity you use at the moment it is generated counts as a saving. Export is not valued.
  • No inflation, no export payment, no panel degradation.

What makes a kit a “plug-in microgenerator”

SI 2026/848 opened a route, from 27 August 2026, for solar equipment you can plug into a normal socket without the usual installer sign-off. To use that route a device has to:

Generate from sunlight

Solar PV only — this route is not open to other generation.

Put out no more than 800W AC

The cap is on what the inverter feeds into your wiring, not on panel watts. A 1,260W panel array behind an 800W inverter is within the cap. We list both figures separately for exactly this reason.

Connect by plug and socket

A standard plug into a standard socket, running in parallel with the grid.

Contain no battery

A kit with storage in it falls outside this particular route. That is not the same as being unlawful — it may be entirely fine as a fixed installation under the normal G98/G99 process. It just is not a plug-in microgenerator.

What we will and will not tell you. We show you facts we can point at: the AC rating the vendor publishes, the DC panel watts, whether there is a battery, and whether the device appears on the Energy Networks Association’s Connect Direct register.

We do not publish a verdict on whether any particular kit complies. The ENA register carries a status field whose meaning we have asked the ENA to confirm and have not yet had confirmed, and we are not going to guess with someone else’s product. Every kit on this site is marked not yet verified until that changes.

How we make money
